Over the past few years, taxonomies and transition plans have emerged as two sides of the same coin — the essential tools enabling investors to assess the credibility of companies’ transition commitments and of financial instruments marketed as green or transition. Together, they are becoming central to mobilising credible transition finance.

At the same time, there has been growing policy momentum around requiring the disclosure — and in some cases, the adoption — of transition targets and plans. This progress has continued despite perceptions of policy fatigue and a few high-profile regulatory rollbacks.

Beyond explicit requirements, a growing number of indirect policy approaches are also providing incentives for companies and financial institutions to engage in transition planning — from prudential frameworks and climate risk management expectations to procurement and investment criteria.

This event will examine the progress and persistent challenges in developing and implementing transition plans across large companies and financial institutions. It will also explore how policy frameworks around the world are evolving to promote credible transition planning and strengthen accountability for delivery.

  • Assess progress and challenges in the development and implementation of transition plans by large companies and financial institutions, identifying what drives credibility and where key gaps remain.
  • Explore the evolving policy landscape — from disclosures to requirements within real economy policies— shaping transition planning and disclosure across jurisdictions.
  • Discuss pathways to enhance accountability and policy coherence, ensuring that transition plans effectively mobilise finance and deliver measurable progress toward net zero.
